Goliath Birdeater
The Goliath Birdeater is a spider that belongs to one of the most famous spider families in the world, the Tarantulas. It’s the largest spider in the world by both body length and weight. Their body can grow to a length of up to 13 centimeters (5.1 inches) and they can weigh up to 175 grams (6.2 oz). Even though it’s referred to as a bird-eating spider, it rarely eats cute birds though. Its name is derived from an engraving dating back to the 18th century in which it’s depicted eating a hummingbird. They can be found in the rainforests of multiple countries in South America.
