Flower Carpet, Brussels
The Flower Carpet, as its name suggests, is primarily concerned with the development of precisely that; albeit with only a few hundred thousand Begonias. A carpet of Begonias covers the Grand Place in Brussels, with the design focusing on a specific theme. Hundreds of volunteers work tirelessly under the supervision of Tapis de Fleurs, a non-profit organisation. The first carpet was constructed in 1971, and since 1986, it has become a yearly event. It occurs every two years in August and lasts four days.
